It's that time of year when the Lions produce their Easter Baskets,
to be raffled off for various good causes. This year we will have a stall at the Farmers Market to be held on Saturday 20th
March in Stourbridge, so please come along and help us to help others. Baskets will also be available, for raffle at most

Once again it was time to recognise the efforts and support given to Lions
over the Christmas period, by presenting cheques to those organisations that came out with us on our Santa Sleigh runs.
An evening was organised at the Stourbridge Institute, with nibbles provided, where the various organisations were
presented with their rewards and once again we were pleased to be assisted by our good friends from 102.5 The Bridge Radio.
Graham Fisher MBE, accompanied by his better half Mary Spence MBE, presented the cheques ably assisted by the Bridge CEO Alex
Totney.
We would like to take this oportunity to thank all those that helped us on the sleigh and to the Bridge
for all their support in promoting the runs and helping out at the presentation night

Kingswinford and Stourbridge
Lions attended the “The Dawley Brook Scouts Bonfire and Fireworks Evening” with our catering caravan from which
we sold doughnuts, candy floss. There were plenty of attractions at the event including a small Fun Fair
with a couple of scary rides and some more traditional sideshows such as a Coconut Shy. The gates opened at 5.30pm and by
7.00pm the bonfire was well ablaze to the delight of the many people attending.
The Firework display started at
8.00pm and was very impressive lasting about twenty minutes. The photo shows the Lions in full swing with queues of people waiting
to be served with our legendary freshly cooked doughnuts and freshly made candy floss.
Demand for our food was constant throughout the evening and we eventually stopped serving at 9.00pm
when the event finished.

Kingswinford and Stourbridge Lions attended "The Belbroughton Scarecrow Weekend" with our
catering caravan from which we sold doughnuts, candy floss and hot and cold drinks. The theme for this year’s event was “Children’s
Book Titles” and many of the houses around the village could be seen decorated with scarecrows that were in keeping
with the theme.
There were plenty of attractions planned within the village to keep the many tens of thousands
of visitors entertained during the weekend these ranged from art exhibitions, farmers markets, to hot air
ballon rides.
The photo of our van shows the lull before the storm but we were prepared - just! The event started
at 10.30am each day and the demand for our freshly cooked doughnuts began at the same time. A queue soon formed as word spread
around the Village that some of the best doughnuts could be had from the Kingswinford and Stourbridge Lions, we eventually
had to stop serving at 5.00pm on both days as we exhausted our supplies even though we had restocked for the Sunday with 50%
more than the Saturday. At the final count we had made in excess of 3000 dougnuts, 200 bags of candyfloss and served over
300 drinks during the weekend.

The annual games for the mentally and physically handicapped were held
at the Crystal Centre Stourbridge. This was the 25th year of the Lions Club hosting the games. In addition to the
local Social Education Centres of Stourbridge, Amblecote, Lower Gornal and a team from Pulse we were pleased to welcome a
team from Stow Heath Wolverhampton.
Our guests included Counsellor Pat Martin the Mayor of Dudley,District Governor Lion Femi Onaboulu,
the Centre Managers of the teams taking part and Counsellor Lesley Faulkner, lead member of Social Services.
The games,
based on the theme of ‘Soaps’, were devised and made by the centres where they were assembled, Lions
were in position and the games commenced. Lion President Rob accompanied the guests, viewing all the games, having a go at
all of them and talking to the participants.
After a Buffet Lunch at which photographs were taken including one of a past Mayor, Lion John Walters,
the present Mayor and future Mayor Peter Miller who is an honorary member of K & S club the games recommenced followed
by the presentation of trophies.
All the participants seemed to enjoy the day, as usual, and left with the hope to take part again

We
were asked to attend the Oldswinford Fun Day and provide all the catering needs for those attending. From our catering caravan
we sold doughnuts, candy floss and hot & cold drinks. We also took along our griddles and from these provided bacon
sandwiches, hot dogs and beef burgers. The event was organised by the local PCSO’s with all the proceeds being donated
to Children in Need and Youth4em. Whilst the numbers of people attending was disappointing those that did attend were entertained
by a range of attractions, stalls and displays, the main attraction being a guest appearance from Big Dave, Britain’s
strongest man.
